Frequently Asked Questions

The short, honest answers to what readers ask us most — what CoinCrafty is, how our honest, hands-on coverage and Learn work, where our live data comes from, and why none of it is financial advice.

What is CoinCrafty?
CoinCrafty is an independent, hands-on crypto publication — practical how-to guides and working tools (The Crafty Toolkit), honest hardware-wallet and gear reviews, and plain-English news and coverage. It is the friendly crypto workbench for people who want to actually do crypto safely, not just read about it. It is not an exchange or a wallet, it never custodies your funds, and nothing here is financial advice.
Is anything on CoinCrafty financial advice?
No. Everything is informational and educational only — not financial, investment or tax advice. Crypto is volatile and you can lose money. Our how-to guides teach you how to do something safely; they never tell you what to buy or promise an outcome. Always do your own research, and consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
What is The Crafty Toolkit?
Our hub of hands-on how-to guides plus working tools — a crypto converter, a gas/fee estimator, a private portfolio tracker, DCA and profit calculators, and step-by-step wallet-setup walkthroughs — so you can safely do the thing, not just read about it. See the Toolkit.
Do you actually test the hardware wallets you review?
No — and we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise. Every review currently on CoinCrafty is research-based: compiled from the manufacturer’s own documentation, published security disclosures and reputable reporting, and labelled that way on the page. We have not purchased or handled these devices, and we will never claim we did. If a genuine physical test ever happens, that review will carry a separate, clearly different label and will describe exactly what the test involved. See our review methodology.
How do you score a hardware wallet or gadget?
Against published, weighted criteria — security model, ease of setup, supported assets, build quality, value and support — producing an honest score with the reasons shown in full. Cons are mandatory. A score is never influenced by affiliate commission, and we keep affiliate links off pure safety content. See our review methodology.
Which hardware wallet should I buy?
It depends on your needs and budget; we cover the leading options honestly and explain the trade-offs rather than crowning a single winner. There is no one right answer, and nothing here is financial advice. Start at our reviews and the Hardware Wallets section, then choose the one that fits how you actually hold crypto.
How do I move my crypto off an exchange safely?
Our Toolkit has a step-by-step walkthrough: set up a non-custodial wallet, back up your seed phrase offline, send a small test amount first to confirm the address, and only then move the rest. Never rush it, and never share your recovery phrase with anyone — including anyone claiming to be CoinCrafty.
What is a seed phrase and how do I keep it safe?
A seed phrase (recovery phrase) is the master backup of a non-custodial wallet — anyone who has it controls your funds. Never type it into a website, never photograph it, and never share it. Store it offline, ideally on paper or metal in more than one place. CoinCrafty will never ask for it. See our wallet-security guides in Learn.
Where does the price data come from?
Live prices, 24-hour change, volume and sparklines are proxied server-side from public market data (Binance), with market cap derived from a curated circulating-supply figure per coin. Gas data for the estimator comes from a public source, and the Fear & Greed reading from Alternative.me. We use keyless, quota-free sources and never fabricate a value. See the markets dashboard.
Who writes for CoinCrafty?
Everything is produced and edited by the CoinCrafty editorial desk — a single, accountable collective byline, with a real human editor responsible for every published claim. We do not publish under invented personas, fabricated credentials or a bare “admin” account. If we add individually-bylined writers, each will be a real, consenting person with a genuine profile. See About.
Is content AI-generated?
No. Editorial prose is written by people. We may use AI for routine production support — research leads, formatting, first-pass checks — but not to write the articles, and a human editor is accountable for every story. We say so plainly rather than claim a purity we do not have. The full policy is on our editorial guidelines page.
How does CoinCrafty make money?
Through advertising and clearly-disclosed affiliate links — for example a hardware wallet linked from a review. Affiliate status never changes a review score, we keep affiliate links off pure safety and security content, and we never take payment for favourable coverage. The full policy is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Is CoinCrafty an exchange or wallet?
No. It is a news, education and reviews publication. We do not custody funds, run a wallet, sell tokens or operate any trading product. To be explicit, because the name has been misused elsewhere: we are not affiliated with any “CoinCrafty” trading app or scheme, we never promise profits, and we will never ask you to deposit money with us.
Do I need an account to read CoinCrafty?
No. All content, the Toolkit and the tools are free without registration. The portfolio tracker stores your holdings only in your own browser — no account, no wallet connection and no data collection — so we are not building a profile on you.
What is DeFi?
Decentralized finance — financial apps built on smart contracts (lending, swapping, yield) that run without a middleman. It can be powerful and it can be risky: bugs, scams and impermanent loss are real. We cover it hands-on and honestly, including the risks, in our DeFi & Smart Contracts section.
What is a stablecoin?
A crypto token designed to hold a steady value, usually pegged to a currency like the US dollar. Some are backed by cash and bonds, others by crypto collateral or algorithms — and the backing is exactly what determines the risk. We cover reserves and risks in our Stablecoins section and the glossary.
What is the Fear & Greed Index shown on the site?
A 0-100 gauge of overall market sentiment, published by Alternative.me, where low readings suggest fear and high readings suggest greed. We surface it in the header and on our Fear & Greed page for market context. It is a mood reading, not a trading signal, and never a prompt to buy or sell.
How can I report an error?
We welcome corrections — accuracy matters to us more than being first. Use our contact page to flag anything you think is wrong, and we will review it promptly. When we get something wrong we fix it and log it openly on our public corrections page.
When was CoinCrafty founded?
The coincrafty.com domain was first registered in 2021, and CoinCrafty relaunched as this independent hands-on crypto publication in 2026. We frame it that way deliberately — a registration and relaunch year we can stand behind, rather than claiming a longer continuous history than the brand actually has. More on our about page.
I’m brand new to crypto. Where should I start?
Start with The Crafty Toolkit’s wallet-setup walkthrough and the Beginner Guides, and keep the glossary open alongside for any unfamiliar term. Take it at your own pace — there is no rush, and none of it costs anything.
How do I subscribe to the newsletter?
Sign up for The Workbench — our free weekly email — on the newsletter page or from any signup form on the site. Each issue is one hands-on guide, the week’s crypto news and a gear tip, in a few minutes’ read. It is free, you can leave whenever you like, and we never sell your address.
How can I contact the desk or pitch a guide?
The contact page is the door — for tips, feedback, corrections, guest-guide pitches or partnership enquiries. We read what readers send, though we cannot promise a reply to every message. If you are interested in joining the desk, roles are on our careers page.

Still have a question? The desk is happy to help — reach us via Contact. For how we form our market read, see the methodology; for our standards, the editorial guidelines. And a standing reminder: nothing on CoinCrafty is financial advice.
