Acerca de Injective
Most blockchains are blank canvases and leave finance to whoever builds on top. Injective takes the opposite approach: the trading machinery is part of the chain itself. A central limit <a href="/glossary/order-book/">order book</a>, derivatives markets and price-feed plumbing are built-in modules rather than contracts each new application has to write and redeploy.
It is assembled from the Cosmos toolkit and secured by <a href="/glossary/proof-of-stake/">proof of stake</a> with fast finality, so blocks settle rather than merely becoming probable. That brings native interoperability with other Cosmos networks plus bridges outward to Ethereum and Solana. Orders are matched in frequent batches rather than continuously, a deliberate choice meant to blunt the transaction-ordering games that plague on-chain trading. Developers can deploy WebAssembly contracts or work in an Ethereum-compatible environment.
INJ is staked to validators to secure the chain, carries governance weight over which markets exist and how parameters are set, and is used for fees and as collateral in parts of the ecosystem. Fees generated by applications are pooled and periodically auctioned off, with the INJ that wins those auctions destroyed — a recycling loop tying token supply to how much the network is genuinely used.
Now the trade-offs. The chain is only as busy as the handful of exchanges and structured-product apps built on it, so activity and fee revenue are concentrated in few hands. Cosmos-style validator sets tend to be small, and governance turnout is often dominated by a few large stakers. Order-book depth still depends on professional market makers choosing to show up. Derivatives magnify losses as readily as gains, so anyone exploring here should understand <a href="/glossary/liquidation/">liquidation</a> and the wider <a href="/learn/defi-basics-and-risks/">risks of DeFi</a> first.

Injective Preguntas frecuentes
How is Injective different from a decentralised exchange on another chain?
Most on-chain trading uses automated market makers, where you swap against a pool. Injective builds a genuine order book into the protocol itself, with bids and asks, plus modules for derivatives markets. Applications plug into that shared book rather than each bootstrapping their own liquidity. The design suits traders used to conventional exchange mechanics, and it is unusual in being chain-level rather than contract-level.
What is INJ used for?
It secures the network when staked to validators, it is the governance token for decisions on markets, parameters and upgrades, and it pays network fees. Parts of the ecosystem also use it as collateral. Because governance controls which markets can be listed and how risk parameters are set, holding INJ is closer to holding a say in the venue than to holding a product.
What is the burn auction?
Fees collected from applications across the network are pooled into a basket, then auctioned. Bidders compete using INJ, and the INJ paid by the winner is destroyed permanently. The effect is that ecosystem activity translates into recurring supply reduction. It is a genuine mechanism rather than marketing, but the size of any burn depends entirely on how much the network is actually being used.
Can I stake INJ, and what does that involve?
Yes. You delegate to a validator, who produces blocks on your behalf and shares rewards. Delegated tokens are subject to an unbonding period, so they cannot be sold instantly, and a validator that misbehaves or goes offline can be penalised, which reduces the stake delegated to it. Choosing a validator is a real decision, not a formality, and rewards vary over time.
What are the main risks?
Three stand out. Activity is concentrated in a small number of applications, so ecosystem health depends on few teams. The validator set and governance participation are narrow, which concentrates control. And the chain's speciality, leveraged derivatives, is where retail traders most often lose money quickly — positions can be liquidated in a fast move before you have a chance to react. Bridged assets carry their own separate risk.
Is Injective connected to other blockchains?
Yes. It speaks the Cosmos inter-blockchain protocol, so assets and messages can move between it and other chains in that family fairly natively, and there are bridges to Ethereum and Solana for everything else. Bridges are convenient but historically among the most attacked infrastructure in crypto, so treat a bridged token as carrying the bridge's risk in addition to its own.
