Sobre Chainlink
A blockchain is very good at agreeing on what happened inside itself and completely blind to everything outside. A smart contract cannot look up an exchange rate, check whether a shipment arrived, or read a football score on its own. Chainlink exists to fill that gap. It is a network of independent operators whose job is to fetch outside information, agree on it, and deliver it on-chain in a form contracts can act on.
The mechanism is aggregation. Rather than trusting one source, a Chainlink feed collects data from several independent providers, has several independent node operators report it, and publishes a combined value on-chain — so a single bad source or a single dishonest operator should not move the answer. LINK, the network's token, is what node operators are paid in and what can be put at stake as collateral, the idea being that an operator who misreports has something real to lose.
In practice the biggest use is pricing. Lending protocols need to know what your collateral is worth before they liquidate it, and derivatives platforms need a settlement price, so Chainlink feeds sit underneath a large slice of decentralised finance. Beyond prices, the network supplies verifiable randomness for games and NFT mints, automation that triggers contracts when conditions are met, and messaging so contracts on different chains can talk to each other.
The risks are worth stating plainly. An oracle is a trust assumption wearing a technical disguise: if an attacker can move the price on the markets a feed reads from, or if a feed stalls at the wrong moment, protocols relying on it can be drained through entirely legitimate-looking transactions. Oracle manipulation is a real and repeatedly demonstrated failure mode. There is also an open question about how much of the value the network creates flows back to the token, and plenty of competition for the same work.

Chainlink Perguntas frequentes
What is LINK actually for?
It is the payment and collateral token of the oracle network. Applications that request data pay node operators in LINK, and operators can stake it as a bond that backs their promise to report honestly. Holding LINK does not give you access to data or a share of protocol revenue in the way a share pays a dividend; its role is internal to how the network is paid and secured.
Is Chainlink its own blockchain?
No. Chainlink is a set of node operators and contracts that run alongside other blockchains rather than a chain with its own blocks and its own transaction history. The LINK token itself is issued on Ethereum and exists on other networks too. This is a common point of confusion, because most other large crypto assets are the native coin of a chain.
Where does the data come from?
From ordinary off-chain sources: market data providers, exchanges, and other APIs. A feed's quality depends entirely on the quality and independence of those inputs. Aggregating many sources protects against one of them being wrong, but it cannot conjure good data out of a market that is thin, closed for the weekend, or being deliberately pushed around by someone with capital.
What is oracle manipulation and why does it matter?
It is the attack where someone deliberately distorts the price a contract reads, rather than breaking the contract itself. Push a thinly traded market far enough and a lending protocol may value collateral wrongly, allowing an attacker to borrow far more than they should or trigger unfair liquidations. It is one of the most common causes of large losses in decentralised finance, which is why feed design matters.
Can I stake LINK?
The network has a staking system in which participants lock tokens to back the reliability of certain services, with capacity limits and lock-up conditions that change over time. Read the current terms directly from the official interface before committing anything, and be wary of third-party sites promising easy returns on LINK — that pattern is a common wrapper for scams.
Do I need LINK to use an app that relies on Chainlink?
Almost never. If you borrow on a lending protocol that uses Chainlink price feeds, the protocol handles the oracle costs; you simply use the app. Owning the token is a separate decision from benefiting from the network, which is a useful thing to keep straight when judging what the token is actually worth to you.
