This is a question I get asked a lot when I’m doing some remodeling projects. I’m a firm believer that the best way to make your home look good is to paint it. I think it is really important to be aware of what colors you choose to paint the walls, floor, and ceiling of your home. There are three levels of self-awareness.
The first is to know what color will work well with your home. The second is to know what colors will fade when exposed to sunlight, and the last and most important is to know what colors will not fade when exposed to sunlight. If you have no idea what your home will look like when painted, then you’re not going to be able to make an educated decision on how to decorate.
The beauty of decorating your home is that you can experiment with the colors and the finishes. For example, on my first home I made the walls bright yellow, which seemed to fade when exposed to sunlight. I made the ceiling bright blue, which was more durable, the floors bright red, and the walls pale blue. I’m also able to make a home look different by changing the color of the doors, windows, and trim.

I like ours a bit more than the color choices that have been used in the past. And we want to keep it nice and clean. So we have a white wall and a white door. But that could be painted any color you want. Or, if you like black, you could paint the door black and the wall white.
We use a high-gloss paint, because that is the kind of thing that is easy to clean up. But if you want a really nice shine, we can use a primer. We have a primer that matches the wall and the door, and we just spray it on.
The primer, primer, primer. It’s a spray stuff. It’s like primer, if you’re not familiar, but really good. And it does need to be cleaned up after a while, because it will get all rusty and dirty. It’s good to have a clear primer when you’re doing this. We do paint our walls and doors with a non-reflective oil-based primer, because it gives a nice, glossy finish.
