When I first started working in the nursing industry, it was a dream come true. I was so excited to work with amazing people, I was just so excited to be a nurse! However, this dream quickly became a nightmare when I discovered that the nurses I worked with were not exactly the most patient. Some were rude, some badgering, some seemed to just not care if they worked hard or not. Needless to say, I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be working with them.
I started this blog, and I wrote this book to help others understand what was going on in the industry. The blog has grown to become more than just a blog, and I started it to give others a place to vent about the crappy work I was in. However, I quickly realized that I wasn’t actually venting, I was only trying to learn from the experiences of others. I had grown attached to the idea that I could somehow change the industry by being a better person.
I have never really been a good role model. I have always been one of those people who just works and works and works and works. It has always been a problem for me though because I have always been a perfectionist and always worked to the best of my abilities. For the last year I have been trying to change that. I have decided to start the Travel Nurses in the hopes to give the industry a fresh face and a new perspective.
Travel nurses will be used to help people who are sick, injured, or otherwise unable to leave their homes for a few hours, but they have to be ready to go within 24-48 hours, and be willing to stay for a few days. They will be given medical and dental exams, will be given a brief orientation on the medical system, and will receive a background check.
I think this helps the industry. Also, it’s a great way to put a face on a sick industry while making it look more professional.
