Selma is a young woman, in the middle of the last century, with the best of diseases, the best of treatments, and an abundance of medical resources. The hospital’s staff is largely of the male gender, and so their lack of attention for Selma’s illness is really disturbing.
The medical resources aren’t the problem. The problem is the fact that the doctors and nurses work with a female patient, and with no medical training whatsoever. They are expected to treat her, and if they don’t, they are punished. This is the problem. Selma is not a medical freak. She comes from a family with a large amount of money, and she is very good at solving problems, and she is expected to do what she is told.
It is no wonder that the hospital is running out of room. Selma is not a very well-trained nurse, and when she is not the one giving orders to the doctor, she is the one in charge. She is also extremely patient-centered, and is not the least bit interested in the finer points of medical care. Of course she doesn’t get to do her job because her patient is not her patient, but rather she is just there to make sure that it doesn’t happen.
Selma is a woman who is expected to be more than a simple nurse, but to do what she is told at every turn. She is not a good nurse because she is very patient-centered, and not interested in the finer, more complicated, details of medical care either. I dont know what it is about her that makes people expect her to do more than just do what she is told to do.
