I renewed my drivers’ license in March but I still can’t drive. I’ve been a car-free person for over a year now, so I don’t have to worry about crashing, but I still have to take the written test every year to renew. For those of you who have already renewed your license, I think you’ll agree that taking the test was worth the effort.
The written test is a long process and it takes a lot of time to study and prepare. It’s definitely worth it if the person who wants to renew you is a friend and is ready to help you. It definitely took me a while to get ready to take the test but it was worth it.
The written test itself, the only actual test that we take, is basically three timed tests that are basically the equivalent of the SAT. There is a section on English, a section on mathematics, and a section on writing. There are some other tests, but I don’t remember what they are. The first is the “core” of the test, the two more are “special” or “extras.
The core of it, the three tests, are essentially the same as the ones that are given for the SAT. They are the English, Mathematics, and Writing test. The only difference is that they are shorter, and it is not as easy (or at least as easy as it is for me) to just copy and paste all those questions into the test. Also, they are more subject-specific. I think the math is mostly just on graphing and/or probability and statistics.
The second is the SAT. This one is called the SAT Reasoning Test. The reason I know this is that I have taken the test dozens of times, and each time I get all kinds of questions about the math section that are different from the questions I have heard about in the past.
The SAT Reasoning Test covers the same sort of topics as the SAT Physics test but with different wording. More than a third of the questions are a bit more math-heavy. Like most questions, the math questions tend to be really easy but the SAT Reasoning Test is hard. It will be a while before we get to see how the two tests are related.
The SAT Reasoning Test is much more mathematical than the SAT Physics. The test is designed to test your ability to reason and reason about reasoning. The SAT Physics test is on the other hand, just about physics. The reason I bring this up is because it shows that the SAT Reasoning Test has some really strong similarities to the SAT Physics.
Of course the SAT Reasoning Test is also designed to test your ability to reason and reason about reasoning. But it’s a test that shows you how to get into the minds of people like the Math Olympiad coach Steve Greenstein, who really has you thinking about how to use your brain.
My experience is that the SAT Reasoning Test is a test designed so that the scores on it will let you off-the-hook into the thinking mind of a genius like Steve Greenstein. It’s the kind of test that will get you into a mind like that. It’s also the kind of test that will show that, once you pass it, you can go off and continue to use your brain.
I feel like one of these days I’ll need to study up on Steve Greenstein.
