This week two guests joined us to talk about their travel experiences to Latin American countries. They both had a few interesting experiences that they’d like to share with other travelers.
One of the guest had been to the Dominican Republic and was surprised to find that it’s a big tourist destination. He was also pleasantly surprised to see that it had three med surg hospitals (the other two were in the capital city of Santo Domingo). Now, as a surgeon, he’s very likely to be familiar with the idea of “medicine tourism.” He would only know that since he was a student when he first went to the Dominican Republic.
Well, it would be safe to say that he has gone to the Dominican Republic a few times and met the locals, and maybe he knows something about the hospitals that he just didnt know. Maybe he can help us out with the hospitals that he visited.
It’s a little ironic that a physician who specializes in surgery is also a travel nurse, because we’re also supposed to be able to take care of all the nurses that we see in the Dominican Republic as well. But alas, it looks like that may not be the case.
The problem is that med surg works by putting patients in specific situations where they are expected to be in a certain state of mind. This is the basis of the concept of anesthesia. So we can’t really just wander off to the Dominican Republic and just meet the locals, because we would have to be there in the right state of mind. We’ll need to find a way to use med surg to change a state of mind and hopefully a person who’s just a little bit off.

And while the concept of this is an interesting one, med surg is still a relatively new field of medicine. It’s only been around for about 10 years. In that time doctors have discovered the medical value of letting patients do their own “medicine” in their own bodies. So it’s pretty cool that med surg has finally reached the point where we have an idea of how it might work for people who don’t have the ability to do their own medicine.
It goes like this: The idea is to have a nurse (or doctor) who is a little bit of a “med” or “medicine practitioner”. Basically a doctor who will put you in the hospital, to help you out by doing some of the things you would normally do manually. A couple of things that make med surg different than other medicine are that the doctors aren’t necessarily physicians.
It would be an interesting way to work around the fact that doctors are very much like general practitioners, except in this case they are a bit more specialized. This is because they are trained to be doctors and are not allowed to keep their own practice. They would be the doctors who work in hospitals, rather than doctors whose primary occupation is surgery. It would be really nice if they could actually be doctors, as well.
In the same way that a doctor is trained to fix illnesses, a nurse is trained to treat illnesses. She is trained to be a doctor in return for the prestige and profit from her medical practice, so she will be in the best position to help you with your medical care. So a nurse can help you get a different perspective on your medical condition. So a nurse can help you ask questions about how you’re feeling, what you’re experiencing, and how to handle it.
