Plastic surgery is a huge job, and that’s why we have so many plastic surgeons.
The average medical resident’s salary is between $25,000 and $37,000 a year. With that much money, they could easily get a degree in anything from economics to neuroscience. Then again, they might not; most of us don’t know what to major in and what our future plans should be.
So while it is true that doctors can earn a fair amount of money from their careers, it is also true that they will spend a lot of their time working on a regular basis and doing other things like taking care of kids. Most of these surgeons also have to work full-time, which means they spend a lot of time on the phone, emailing family, and doing other less pleasant tasks. We see this with many different types of medical jobs, including surgeons and dentists.
When I was a kid I remember my grandmother’s advice to my parents when they were trying to decide between a dentist and an orthodontist: “If you want a nice job, get a nice job.” Now, she might have been speaking metaphorically but that advice really stuck with me. So if you want a nice job, get a nice job.
Now, if you want a nice job, get a nice job. But do you really need a job? A lot of people do seem to need jobs, but they might not necessarily get them. According to Gallup, one in three Americans are jobless, and the National Association of Realtors says that one in four of their members have lost their job.
The number of jobless people in the U.S. is up dramatically from its 1980 peak. Even more surprising, the number of people who have lost their job due to bad weather is up significantly. A lot of it is due to bad weather.
What might be surprising is how many of these people are working, in part because a whole bunch of industries are affected by weather. But that doesn’t mean that the weather is going to be good for them, or that they are going to be able to get their job back. The weather can change really quickly, and a lot of jobs are seasonal, so you can’t just expect them to be able to always get a job.
It does make you wonder whether the workers are all doing poorly, or whether the weather is to blame for their problems. If they are, it would suggest that they arent doing anything very useful, and so they arent getting much pay at all. If they are working, then they are not making much money, and so the weather is the real problem (which makes me wonder if there is a huge surplus of plastic surgeons).
Plastic surgery is a profession that employs a lot of people in the UK. In 2017 the cost of surgery was £24,000. For the average patient, the cost of surgery is a lot less than that. A lot of it is, of course, out of pocket. The average plastic surgeon in the US makes between $90,000 and $120,000 a year, so the average plastic surgeon in the UK makes around $170,000 a year.
I don’t know what the average plastic surgeon makes, but I imagine it’s nowhere near that amount.
