Ericsson is an innovative, privately held company providing advanced design and engineering services to the global electrical industry.
We just learned that this is what Ericsson is. They’ve been using my name and logo for quite a while now and I think a lot of you are really excited about the name change. That was the official announcement in the press release. I think the change should be fun, and it should make you think about what it means to become an Ericsson.
Okay, so Ericsson is an amazing company, a great place to work, and I think we should all really respect the name and logo. But there’s a catch. Ericsson is a Swedish company, and Swedish companies are kind of a little known brand in the US. So what was I talking about? Oh, we’ll change the name to something else for a little while.
To be fair, we don’t know what the old Ericsson name was. They still have a small presence in Sweden, but the vast majority of the US market is known as Ericsson.
This is also why I like to talk about something I know nothing about. Ericsson is a company that I have never heard of and its weird to me. But to be fair, I have never heard of Ericsson. I do know the name is still used in Sweden, but to me it sounds a little weird.

So now that we have the story of Ericsson and Nokia, what is the story of the now defunct Ericsson? Well, the company was created in the late 1970s to do wireless communications. It was bought by Nokia in a deal that was the result of a massive bidding war that saw the Swede Ericsson get the Nokia contract. Unfortunately the company, and its products didn’t do anything that wasn’t already on the market.
Ericsson was a hardware company, but it also made an entire line of electrical products. The Ericsson brand was one of the major contributors to the success of the Nokia brand, and it is a bit of a coincidence that Ericsson was the company that made the first wireless phone. Ericsson was not just a hardware company.
Ericsson was bought by Nokia in the mid 1980’s, and later sold off. Now the Ericsson brand is used by a bunch of different companies. For instance, the Ericsson line of products is used in the Apple iPod, the iPhone and the Zune.
