In a very real sense, we are 600 pounds of self-awareness. We are as much a part of ourselves as the next person. The problem is that we keep underestimating ourselves.
It’s not that we are overestimating ourselves, but that we are too close to our own limits. We tend to have a big ego, but it’s a big ego because we feel worthless. And that ego is a reflection of the fact that we feel that we are so insignificant. This is what it means to be human.
It’s a good thing, then, that we are all too aware of ourselves. When we fail to recognize this, we feel worthless and unimportant. It’s a feeling we can easily get caught in. Just last night, I saw a tweet that said, “I have been a billionaire for 20 years and I still don’t even have a car,” and I couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
I’m not sure if it was the way that the tweet read or the way that I felt it, but that feeling of insignificance was a powerful one. I went to bed that night knowing I didn’t have a car and yet feeling really important – I mean, who doesn’t? I’m not sure if I felt that way before I started wearing a suit, but I think I was feeling that way before that.
The fact is that $600/pound is an extremely low price for a car, especially for a car like this. In reality, $600/pound is nothing compared to what we spend on a really good (and expensive) car.
