My resume is pretty good. I’m very interested in a career that involves getting people to safety-critical places. I have several years of experience in trauma care and I have worked in a variety of areas in the military, including emergency medical technician (EMT), intensive care, and trauma.
The first thing you should understand is that travel nurses don’t need to be very experienced. The only requirement is that you have the ability to work on any job you choose. They can do triage, so be aware of that. The best part of the position is that most travel nurses work for a company full of people. Their job is to travel around the country and do whatever it takes to save lives.
Basically, as a travel nurse you’ll be on the road to work all day and have to be able to perform various tasks. One of the biggest tasks is to keep people alive during emergencies. After a trip to the ER, the best thing to do is get a bag of ice and put it in a bag of trash.
A few years ago, when my wife and I moved from Indiana to Ohio, we were told we were getting a new job with a travel nurse. I thought, “Wow! So we’ll have to move every weekend to a different city.” But we actually hated doing that. It was a lot of work, and we both enjoyed traveling the country.
Not that I was particularly jealous of the travel nurse salary, I was actually really happy we got a new job. But it’s amazing how some things can change over the course of a year. You can never plan for what you do, but then you make a decision and it changes at a moment’s notice.
There are a lot of times I would make decisions and I would end up making a decision that I didn’t want to. It’s not uncommon for a trip to end up with a decision that I didn’t want to go with.
