They also get into the digestive tract to examine the esophagus, stomach, and intestinal tract. Because gastroenterologists are the people working in the digestive system, they’re often referred to as digestive physicians.
In general, gastroenterologists make an average of $74,500 per year. In the US, those numbers are a little higher, with gastroenterologists making about $91,500 per year. Many gastroenterologists work in private practice, but a few are employed by hospitals, nursing homes, or in other facilities.
